Marketing and Sales opportunity to support a start-up focussed around vintage clothing

Kia ora!

If you would like to use your skills in marketing and sales to work for a fresh kiwi start-up that aims to connect, support and grow the vintage and creative community of New Zealand – this could be for you.

Smokey Bandit is a brand that has been synonymous with vintage clothing for 6 years. We started on Facebook and have grown into owning our own space on the internet – a bonafide invite-based peer to peer marketplace, like Trademe or Etsy. We celebrate slow-fashion at a relaxed pace, and want to provide a platform for enthusiastic buyers and stylish vendors to meet.

Part of our motivation is due to seeing the rise of vintage sellers on Instagram, and recognising how exhausting and demanding it can be to run an independent brand on social media. If we can create a central space that can alleviate the pressure that’s on independent sellers by building a base location for the coolest vintage in NZ – we’ll be onto a good thing.

Your role will be all about growing the membership base, and on-boarding new vintage sellers to become official Smokey Bandit vendors. This will include both social media sellers and physical vintage stores from around New Zealand. I am looking for a marketing / sales enthusiast who..

– Is social media savvy – you’ll be responsible for the marketing and community management (Instagram, Facebook and potentially Pinterest)
– Can learn systems quickly and problem-solve efficiently
– Has initiative and is comfortable working autonomously
– Isn’t afraid to converse with strangers on the phone or face to face
– Can create engaging email marketing campaigns
– Is skilled at repurposing user-generated content to build the brand

Bonus skills:
– Copywriting
– Content creation
– Design

I’m Lucy, the founder, and myself work professionally as a copywriter, strategist and storyteller. I would be so happy to impart some of my industry knowledge onto you, and support you in your career. We will be working super closely, and you’ll be in a very safe space to share ideas and feedback about this brand, platform and future visions.

This will start out as a part-time freelance opportunity, and am happy to discuss fixed weekly hours. The pay will be between $18 and $22 per hour. I’m excited to support someone who is engaged, excited and driven to get this marketplace off the ground and keep the circular economy moving.

If you’re interested, please send a CV and a blurb about yourself, including your skillset, your aspirations and what you would hope to get out of this opportunity, to Check out the website for a rundown of the marketplace at We are on Instagram.
